Osaka Planning Aid Scheme for Small Biz under Closure Request

The Prefectural Government of Osaka is considering a plan together with municipalities to offer one million yen each to small businesses and 500,000 yen to each sole proprietor who follows the prefecture’s temporary closure request from April 15th to May 6th.

A total of about 60,000 businesses in the prefecture are expected to be eligible. Osaka Prefecture released the following list of facilities subject to the suspension of operations on April 14th. Mr. Hirofumi Yoshimura, Governor of Osaka Prefecture stressed that those aid schemes and closure requests should be treated as a package style.

Request for Facility Use Restrictions by Osaka Governor

At a meeting held on April 13, Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura indicated that the number of people infected with the new coronavirus was doubling on a seven-day basis, and that further measures to prevent infection were needed. In addition to the previous requests for “self-restraint on going out” and “self-restraint on holding events,” the Governor of Osaka Prefecture implemented new requests for “restricted use of facilities” starting on Tuesday, April 14.

The target industries are as follows. In addition, Governor Yoshimura said at a roundtable meeting last Saturday between Economic Revitalization Minister Nishimura and the governors of seven prefectures that he asked the state to create a system that would allow small and medium-sized businesses to postpone tenant rents for three months.
